Based on 1996 amendment to our CC&Rs and Bylaws, the Board of Directors was able to negotiate a service contract with a single trash service provider. Each neighbor gets lower pricing and fewer trucks on our streets for trash pickup and recycling.

We currently have a service contract with Waste Management for one (1) recycling and one (1) trash pickup per week on Friday. The recycling seems to be in the early morning, and the trash pick generally occurs later in the day.
Residents are responsible for establishing their own personal account. Their website is https://www.wm.com/ Or you can reach their Customer Service at 888-964-9760. You work directly with WM to initiate and maintain your service, including any seasonal changes and any service issues and cancelling your service if you sell your home.
Billing to each individual resident occurs quarterly. When you contact WM, make sure to tell them you are a resident of Canoa Hills Townhomes and the HOA has a contract with WM.
- Paperless Billing is not an additional charge, but if you elect to have a paper quarterly invoice mailed to you, there is an added service fee.
- Autopay Billing is available. On the website, you need to create a MyWM account, and sign up.
- WM notifications and holiday schedule changes are available by email with a MyWM account,
- Seasonal Residents can place their service "on hold". You won't pay during the hold, but you will be charged $40 to resume your service. Because of this fee, short holds may not be cost-effective.
- Timing of placing the trash cans out depends on your schedule. With javelinas in the area, it's best not to put your trash out overnight. However, if you're not an early riser, you may put your recycling out the night before so you don't miss the early recycling pickup time. Javelinas do tip cans over and spread the trash widely, making a messy surprise for you to clean up.
- Excess trash next to the containers will not be picked up unless you have pre-arranged the pickup by calling Customer Service at WM. Only trash and recycling that fits inside the containers is picked up automatically.
- During holiday weeks, trash pickup often has a day or more of delay. You can check the WM website. Signing up for WM emails via MyWM account is the best way to be notified.
